We ordered a fireplace insert to replace an old wood-burning fireplace in our new home. Sean at California Window and Fireplace was very easy to work with, the team showed up on time, the installation went smoothly and one of the guys gave us a tutorial on how to use the remote. We are very happy with both the product and service.

We are so glad we went with Cal Window for the front door, windows and interior doors for our new home. Sean was very helpful, and even designed the front door and windows based on our vision. The products are beautiful and the installation was seamless. Thank you so much, Cal Window! Pictures: 1. Original house windows and front door 2. New windows and front door are in! 3. Front door Sean designed for us :) 4. Interior doors in progress

Five-Stars all the way around for Sean and his team at California Window & Fireplace for my new Velux skylight systems! I have been waiting to write this review, so I could give Cal Window some big props on handling two separate disputes with the Velux factory for a new product they introduced this year - custom-size blinds. While Velux is arguably the best skylight manufacturer out there, they also appeared to have some operational issues launching their new custom-blinds product and twice shipped two incorrect orders, first with a skylight, then with blinds. I do want to applaud Sean for how he handled things in a winsome way. Velux didn’t want to own the first mistake, but Sean was persistent and was able to drive it to resolution…and then same on the second mistake the Velux factory made. All three skylights are now installed with the correct custom-size automated blinds and they work great…and the skylights are great! Thank you Sean, Gloria, Alex, Nancy, and Patrick for the constant communication letting me know where things stood. I am looking forward to working with you all again!

Frequently Asked Questions About Fireplaces

Can I put a gas insert in my existing wood-burning fireplace?2026-06-08T21:43:40+00:00

In many cases, yes. A professional will need to confirm your fireplace dimensions, venting setup, gas access, and clearances before recommending the right insert.

How do I know what size gas insert I need?2026-06-08T21:45:38+00:00

The right size depends on your existing fireplace opening, depth, rear width, front width, and height. Measuring your firebox is the first step, but final sizing should be confirmed by a fireplace professional.

What is the difference between a gas fireplace insert and gas logs?2026-06-08T21:50:10+00:00

A gas insert is a sealed appliance installed inside an existing fireplace and is designed for better heating efficiency. Gas logs are usually placed inside an existing fireplace and are often more decorative than heat-focused.

Are gas fireplace inserts efficient?2026-06-08T21:51:52+00:00

Yes. Gas inserts are generally much more efficient than traditional open wood-burning fireplaces because they are sealed and designed to push usable heat into the room instead of losing much of it up the chimney.

Do gas fireplace inserts need a chimney?2026-06-08T21:54:00+00:00

Most gas inserts use the existing chimney structure for venting, but they typically require a proper vent liner or approved venting system. A professional inspection is needed to determine what your home requires.

Do I need a gas line for a gas insert?2026-06-08T21:56:32+00:00

Yes. A gas fireplace insert needs access to natural gas or propane. If your fireplace does not already have a gas line, one may need to be installed by a qualified professional.

Can a gas insert heat my room?2026-06-08T21:59:13+00:00

Yes. Gas inserts are commonly used to provide supplemental heat for living rooms, family rooms, and other main areas. The amount of heat depends on the model, room size, insulation, and home layout.

How long does installation take?2026-06-08T22:01:24+00:00

Installation time depends on the fireplace condition, venting requirements, gas line access, and finish work. Many straightforward installations can be completed relatively quickly, but more complex projects may take longer.

Are gas fireplace inserts easy to use?2026-06-08T22:05:16+00:00

Yes. Regency gas inserts offer simple controls, remote operation, thermostat options, and push-button ignition, depending on the model.

Do gas fireplace inserts work during a power outage?2026-06-08T22:07:26+00:00

Yes Regency fireplace models can operate during a power outage, as they have a battery backup or standing pilot systems. However, blowers, lights, or certain controls require electricity, depending on the unit.

Do I need professional installation?2026-06-08T22:09:25+00:00

Yes. Gas fireplace inserts should be installed by qualified professionals because they involve gas connections, venting, clearances, and safety requirements.

How do I get started?2026-06-08T22:11:27+00:00

Start by measuring your existing fireplace opening or scheduling a consultation. A fireplace specialist can help confirm which inserts fit, review design options, and provide an installed quote.
